ABOUT
An AI-powered tool that generates personalized and unique tattoo sketches through text prompts, style templates, image galleries, and realistic portrait rendering. The app is designed for individuals planning a tattoo in North and South America and Australia, including tattoo artists. It is typically used as quick inspiration before a salon visit to create the perfect sketch.
THE CHALLENGE
The primary business goal was to maximize subscription conversions after onboarding. To achieve this, it was crucial to create a strong first impression with motion design and an animated splash screen, while showcasing the app’s unique features to boost engagement. These features included virtual tattoo try-on and sketch generation based on personal inputs, such as a user’s favorite pet.
The MVP strategy also needed to address different user types:
- Subscription users, via weekly and yearly plans
- Free users, through ad-supported flows
User acquisition was driven by targeted campaigns on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Pinterest. Since the service often caters to one-time purchases, the conversion strategy emphasized creating a highly compelling onboarding experience.
KEY RESULTS ACHIEVED
- Conducted user interviews to uncover core challenges, including difficulties choosing tattoo sizes and generating unique tattoo ideas.
- Iterated on the design through multiple usability tests, identifying and addressing critical usability gaps.
- Designed engaging motion graphics for the splash screen and onboarding to strengthen the first impression.
WHAT I’D IMPROVE
Refine localized UX writing, with greater attention to Russian translations.
Improve the post-sketch call-to-action by shifting from “Create New” to “Try On,” creating a smoother, more intuitive preview flow.
